What it is
Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana is a government savings scheme for a girl child under 10. You deposit for 15 years and the account matures 21 years after opening.
How it's worked out
Deposits go in for the first 15 years; the balance then keeps earning until year 21. Interest compounds yearly.
What each input means
- Annual Deposit: How much you will put in each year.
- Interest Rate (p.a.): The yearly interest % — use today's rate from the bank or post office.
- Current Balance: What is in the account today, if it is already running. Optional.
- Years Since Opening: How many years ago the account was opened.
Good to know
Up to ₹1.5 lakh a year; deposits, interest and maturity are tax-free. Half the balance can be withdrawn after she turns 18 for education.
A quick example
₹1.5 lakh a year at 8.2%: ₹22.5 lakh deposited becomes about ₹72 lakh at 21 years.
