What it is
Three long-term savings options, fed the same monthly amount for the same years, so you can see how they compare.
How it's worked out
EPF: interest accrues monthly and is added yearly. PPF: the year's deposit (at most ₹1.5 lakh) goes in at the start of each year. NPS: grows monthly at the expected return; 40% buys a pension at the annuity rate.
What each input means
- Monthly Contribution: How much you put in every month.
- Investment Period: For how many years.
- EPF Interest Rate: The yearly EPF interest %, set each year.
- PPF Interest Rate: The yearly PPF interest %, set every quarter.
- NPS Expected Return: The yearly growth % you expect. Markets go up and down, so this is a guess.
- Expected Annuity Rate: The yearly % the pension plan pays — ask the insurer for today's rate.
Good to know
EPF and PPF give fixed, government-set rates; NPS returns vary with the market. EPF needs salaried work, PPF locks in for 15 years, NPS until 60. Tax at maturity differs, as noted under the results.
A quick example
₹5,000 a month for 25 years: NPS at 10% usually ends highest, then EPF at 8.25%, then PPF at 7.1%.
