What it is

CAGR (compound annual growth rate) is the single, steady yearly rate that takes a starting value to an ending value. It lets you compare investments held for different lengths of time.

How it's worked out

CAGR = (final ÷ starting)^(1 ÷ years) − 1. Total growth = final ÷ starting − 1.

What each input means

Good to know

CAGR smooths out the ups and downs along the way, and it ignores any money added or taken out in between. For a SIP, the right measure is XIRR, not CAGR.

A quick example

₹1 lakh that became ₹2 lakh in 5 years grew at about 14.9% a year.
